In the works of Dostoevsky, one can clearly see the importance of love to Dostoevsky’s belief about salvation and the nature of man. Let us take into consideration the following quote which perfectly encapsulates Dostoevsky’s belief in love.
“Love is such a priceless treasure that the whole world may be purchased with it”
Mcduff, David. “Women of Faith.” The Brothers Karamazov, by Fyodor Dostoyevsky, Penguin Books Ltd, 2003, pp. 72-73
This quote represents the dualistic nature of love in salvation. Firstly, it is the love of Jesus Christ our savior who redeems and forgives us in our sin. Secondly, it is our love and admiration of God and, in extension, our neighbor, that allows us to be saved.
As such, it is precisely in love, and only through love, that humans are able to be saved.
